Previewing Tuesday’s EPL fixtures

FA Cup fixtures dominated the weekend, but this week is all about the English Premier League, with all 20 clubs set to play either on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Tuesday’s fixtures include:

Swansea City v Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur v Wigan Athletic

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Liverpool

Everton v Manchester City

Manchester United v Stoke City

Let’s right to the previews and predictions.

Swansea City v Chelsea:

Premier League newcomers Swansea City host Andre Villas-Boas and Chelsea at Liberty Stadium on Tuesday night.

Swansea are currently in 13th in the table, having tallied 26 points in 22 EPL matches, while Chelsea are 4th with 41 points.

Brendan Rodgers’ side has been absolutely brilliant in front of their home supporters, losing just once in 11 home fixtures.

Players to Watch

For Swansea City, keep an eye on former Chelsea winger Scott Sinclair. Surely he would love to score against his former club.

As for Chelsea, Fernando Torres could be the main man. If not, look out for fellow Spaniard Juan Mata.

Prediction

At the moment, I’m predicting a 1-1 draw, but I might change my mind after the game.

Tottenham Hotspur v Wigan Athletic:

Harry Redknapp’s Spurs play hosts to Roberto Martinez and Wigan Athletic tomorrow night.

If Spurs want to be taken seriously in the race for the Premier League title, they must defeat Wigan at White Hart Lane.

Players to Watch

Emmanuel Adebayor should dominate a mediocre, at best, Wigan defence.

For Wigan, I have been very impressed by Victor Moses this season and I fancy him to play well yet again.

Prediction

Spurs win 3-0.

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Liverpool:

Fresh off a 2-1 victory over bitter rivals Manchester United, Liverpool travel to Molineux to take on Wolves.

It’s difficult not to fancy Liverpool, but every time that I have picked the Reds to win, they fail to take three points.

So what do we have in store on Tuesday night?

Players to Watch

For Wolves, keep an eye on hard-working striker Kevin Doyle, who has been linked with a potential move to Everton in recent days.

According to ESPN Soccernet, Mick McCarthy is not looking to sell the Irish international.

“Whether there are legs or not in Everton’s interest, Kevin is not going anywhere.

“I’d be crackers to sell Doyle with two days left of the transfer window. Guess what, I’m not crackers!”

Prediction

Despite Wolves boss Mick McCarthy not being “crackers”, I fancy Liverpool to score a few crackers in a 2-1 win at Molineux.

Everton v Manchester City:

Will David Moyes park the bus when Premier League leaders Manchester City take on Everton at Goodison Park?

Let’s just say that I wouldn’t change my plans to watch the game.

Players to Watch

If Everton are to get a result, Tim Howard will need to be on top form.

As for Manchester City, David Silva is always the danger-man.

Prediction

I fancy Everton to  thwart the Manchester City attack and get a point out of this one. 0-0 draw.

Manchester United v Stoke City:

Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United will be looking to put their 2-1 defeat to Liverpool behind them when they host Stoke City at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

At the moment, the Red Devils are three points behind Manchester City, and can’t afford to not take full points against Stoke.

Players to Watch

Javier “El Chicharito” Hernandez has already established himself as a Stoke City killer, having bagged three goals and one assist against the Potters last season.

Lanky striker Peter Crouch is the man to fear if you are a Manchester United supporter.

The England international scored the equaliser when these two teams met at the Britannia Stadium earlier this season.

Prediction

All things considered, United should win the game quite comfortably. 2-0 Red Devils.
