Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz, banned for one month for insulting anti-doping officials, is the target of a fresh disciplinary inquiry after turning his ire on a high ranking Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) official.

The former Manchester United assistant manager was on Thursday suspended for Portugal’s first two Euro 2012 qualifiers on September 3 and 7 for insulting anti-doping officials who had turned up to test his players at a pre-World Cup training camp in May.

Now he faces a further ban or even the sack according to reports Friday after accusing FPF vice president Amandio de Carvalho of trying to get him kicked out of his job.

In an interview with a weekly newspaper Queiroz claimed that de Carvalho was behind “a concerted action” to get him fired.

According to Friday’s A Bola sports daily Queiroz is now “walking a tightrope” to keep his job.

The Jornal de Noticias reckons this latest brush with authority spells the end of the road for Queiroz with the paper claiming that “his sacking is on the cards”.

Another newspaper, Record, suggested Queiroz’s situation “was no longer tenable”.

Jornal de Noticias concurred, claiming “it’s evident that the conditions are no longer in place for the national manager to continue.”

On Thursday the former Real Madrid boss was accused of insulting officials, including Luis Horta, the head of the Portuguese anti-doping agency who had come to test players on May 16 before the squad flew out to the World Cup in South Africa.
