By scoring in Wednesday’s Spanish Cup final with Athletic de Bilbao, FC Barcelona striker has entered the top three of players with most goals scored in one season at the Catalan side.
The Argentinian now scored 37 goals in 48 games and could even add another few in the team’s remaining matches. The gap with the top two seems to be a bit too big however.
Brazilian forward Ronaldo tops the list with an impressive 47 goals scored in 49 games. This amount was achieved in the 1996-97 season.
Legend Mariano Martin needed only 31 games to score no less than 44 goals in the 1942-43 season, making him the most productive player per match.
Barcelona, largely inspired by Messi this season, have a chance to win the ‘treble’ for the first time in history. Sep Guardiola’s men won the Copa del Rey, are very close to winning La Liga and face Manchester United in the final of the Champions League.
