Werder Bremen’s Sebastian Proedl claims he has been approached by Lazio about a move to the Serie A club at the end of the 2011/12 season.
The Austria international defender is out of contract at the Bundesliga club at the end of the season and there has been speculation that Lazio are interested in signing him on a free transfer.
When pressed on the rumours, Proedl told Syker Kreiszeitung: “There is contact. We talked only about a move in the (European) summer but nothing has been decided.”
Proedl also revealed that he has talked to other clubs, but said there was a chance he could stay at the Weserstadion: “Werder are still interesting.”
Bremen sporting director Klaus Allofs also believes the player could end up signing a new deal with the club.
“We can well imagine continuing to work with him,” he told Kicker, before adding that he feels ‘Werder will be high on Proedl’s list’ of potential suitors.
Proedl joined Bremen from Sturm Graz in his homeland in 2008 but has found a regular starting place hard to find at the club.
He made 33 appearances in all competitions last season, featuring 11 times this campaign.
