Scotland Yard have given prosecutors a file detailing John Terry’s alleged racial slur towards QPR defender Anton Ferdinand.
The 30-year-old had been accused of directing racist abuse towards the former Sunderland man during October’s 1-0 defeat to Neil Warnock’s side at Loftus Road.
After collecting evidence the police have put the case in the hands of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), who will decide whether or not the evidence is sufficient enough to charge the Chelsea and England captain.
The CPS received the file on Wednesday after Terry had been questioned under caution by Metropolitan Police last week.
The Football Association has made its intention to launch an investigation into the incident clear, but this will not begin until it is decided whether as to Terry will face a criminal investigation.
Terry has strenuously denied the charges against him, saying: “I’ve seen that there’s a lot of comments on the internet with regards to some video footage of me during the game.”
“I’m disappointed that people have leapt to the wrong conclusions about the context of what I was seen to be saying to Anton Ferdinand.”
“I would never say such a thing, and I’m saddened that people would think so.”
