In a contest that famously produces fireworks, league leaders PSG will make the trip to the Stade Louis II when they face off against Monaco on Friday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Monaco might have endured a torrid time over the past few years, it appears that Les Monégasques might have finally managed to find their feet since bringing in former Bayern Munich boss Niko Kovač. Last seen heading into November’s international break by picking up a very impressive 2-1 victory away at Nice earlier in the month, the Red and Whites have managed to muster back-to-back Ligue 1 victories, including a thumping 4-0 romp against Bordeaux on home soil. Marking their return to action sat with only their goal difference stopping them from breaking into the European spots, Monaco are certainly a side enjoying a new lease of life. However, facing what is an unenviable task this weekend, it should be noted that they have failed to record a victory over the defending champions since 2016.
As for the visitors, although PSG might have been devastated to have seen RB Leipzig end their purple patch with a 2-1 defeat while on Champions League duties earlier in the month, the French heavyweights managed to make a thumping return to winning ways. Eventually breezing past fellow European outfit Rennes thanks to a rampant 3-0 victory in the capital, Thomas Tuchel’s men have managed to forge a five-point buffer at the top of the table and it is no surprise they’re a landslide pick to reclaim their domestic crown this season. Winning each of their last seven Ligue 1 contests on the bounce since their rocky start to the 2020/2021 campaign, it is well worth keeping an eye out for the red-hot Moise Kean on Friday night. Enjoying a stellar run since securing a loan switch from Everton, the 20-year-old has recorded five goals for PSG in as many appearances.
