(GSM) – Paris St Germain coach Antoine Kombouare reveals his team’s only focus for the Ligue 1 run-in will be on picking up as many points as possible – despite the fact the mid-table capital club could have a major say on the destiny of the title.
PSG held joint leaders Auxerre to a 1-1 draw on their own turf last night and on Saturday night face defending champions Bordeaux, who lie fourth in the standings – a point behind Lyon, Montpellier and AJA.
But Kombouare is not bothered about how his side’s exploits may have a crucial bearing on the title race. “I do not care about other teams,” he said.
He continued, “We will play our game, take as many points as possible and try to achieve the best ranking. After Bordeaux, we will prepare the Coupe de France match against Quevilly in Caen.”
It has been a disappointing season for the Parisiens but they picked up seven points in March to banish any lingering relegation worries and have a cup semi-final against Quevilly to look forward to on 14 April. Daniel Niculae put Jean Fernandez’s Auxerre ahead in the 11th minute last night but their lead lasted just five minutes before Younousse Sankhare equalised.
Kombouare was delighted with his team’s response to going a goal down. Asked whether they would have reacted as well a month ago, he said, “I do not know. What is important is that we showed the desire, consistency and durability to produce a very good game in a difficult environment.”
