PSG confirm interest in Matic
Paris Saint-Germain boss Laurent Blanc has revealed that he is interested in taking Benfica midfielder Nemanja Matic to Parc des Princes.
The Serbian footballer is one of the most sought-after players in Europe at the moment and he has been linked with Chelsea, Napoli, Monaco and Real Madrid, among other clubs.
However, it appears that PSG are the latest side to have joined the chase for his signature, with coach Laurent Blanc praising the 25-year-old.
“Matic is a good player,” Blanc told reporters ahead of the Benfica clash. “He is a young player. Benfica have very good, young players, including those from Balkan countries.
“As to whether he will be at PSG in the future, I hope to get him but he is already at a big club called Benfica.”
Nemanja Matic has developed into one of Europe’s top holding midfielders since joining the Eagles from Chelsea, but he is widely tipped to leave Benfica for a bigger club in the near future.
De Bruyne hints at January exit
Chelsea midfielder Kevin De Bruyne could be leaving Stamford Bridge in January, according to the player’s official representative.
The 22-year-old has seen his first team chances severely limited after returning from a very successful loan spell at Werder Bremen, having made just 3 Premier League appearances this season.
And with his status at the club unlikely to change, De Bruyne is hoping to leave the Blues in the winter transfer window.
“In two weeks we have a scheduled appointment in London, where we will learn more about the future of Kevin De Bruyne,” agent Patrick de Koster explained to Eurosport.
The talented footballer is eager to leave Chelsea in order to keep his place in the national team ahead of the 2014 World Cup, with Atletico Madrid, Werder Bremen, Wolfsburg and few more high-profile clubs though to be keen.
Meanwhile, Chelsea sit five points adrift off the top of the standings in the Premier League, and are priced at 7/2 to win the title.
Lichtsteiner set for Juventus stay
Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport is reporting that Swiss defender Stephan Lichtsteiner is set to extend his stay in Turin.
The Bianconeri officials are currently in talks with several high-profile players as they hope to tie them down to new long-term deals, with the Switzerland international one of them.
And while the negotiations have been ongoing over the past few months, the agreement finally appears on the horizon.
According to Tuttosport, the 29-year-old will put pen to paper on a new deal until June 2017 in the coming weeks.
Stephan Lichtsteiner has largely impressed since arriving from Lazio in the summer of 2011, managing 6 goals and 5 assists in 69 Serie A appearances.
He has missed almost two months of action with a thigh injury and finally returned into action in the crucial Champions League match against Galatasaray that was eventually abandoned due to adverse weather conditions.
