Paris Saint-Germain have contacted Lionel Messi with a view of making the Argentinian superstar their latest super-signing after Barcelona openly declared on Thursday that he would not sign a new contract at the Camp Nou, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
As revealed by Barcelona president Joan Laporta in a press conference on Friday, the Catalan club tried everything in their power to keep Messi and they had a contract agreed and ready to be signed, but the La Liga regulations concerning player salaries simply don’t allow it.
Messi had tried in the past to orchestrate a return to Barcelona for Neymar, whose move to PSG in 2017 still holds as the world’s most-expensive transfer ever, but now it seems the pair of them could be reunited in Paris instead. The Ligue 1 giants are expected to intensify their efforts towards signing Messi in the next few days.
Asked directly about PSG’s interest in the 34-year-old six-time Ballon d’Or winner, Laporta said he didn’t know anything about that but he was sure Messi had options.
