PSG in the market for new holding midfielder

French media outlet L’Equipe is reporting that Paris Saint-Germain are eager to sign a new holding midfielder at the earliest opportunity.

The fact of the matter is that head coach Unai Emery doesn’t have a quality replacement for veteran midfielder Thiago Motta, although he did try to address the issue in the summer.

However, the Saints were priced out of both Fabinho and Danilo Perreira, and things are unlikely to change in January.

This means that Emery could give youngster Lorenzo Callegari a chance in the second part of the season after the 19-year-old failed to secure a loan deal earlier this summer.

The midfielder has so far made just one brief appearance in Ligue 1, but he has been training with the senior squad on several occasions.

Adrien Rabiot could also help out if needed, but he has made it clear that he doesn’t want to be playing in front of the back four.
