Paris Saint-Germain spent a lot of time negotiating over a potential departure of Neymar with both Real Madrid and Barcelona this summer. However, Sport claim that the name of Kylian Mbappe was also being discussed.
Apparently, at Zinedine Zidane’s request, Real have made signing the young Frenchman their absolute priority, ahead of even Paul Pogba of Manchester United. So much so that they’re willing to play the long game to get what they want. They intend to launch a strong offensive to get the transfer done next summer, and they also have a contingency plan in case that fails.
If Mbappe isn’t theirs in 12 months, they will try again in 2021, this time aided by the fact that the forward would only have a year remaining on his contract, which would enable them to employ the same transfer tactics which brought them Eden Hazard this summer from Chelsea.
However, PSG saw fit to inform Barcelona of Real’s intentions, probably to try and stir another bout of competition between the fierce La Liga rivals and potentially raise the price.
