Several senior players are expected to leave Paris Saint-Germain in the foreseeable future as Leonardo, the club’s Sporting Director, is readying to undertake a reconstruction of the squad, Sport reports. The main reason behind the move is the fact that the team have failed to dominate Europe as they have managed to dominate domestically, finishing first in Ligue 1 with 17 points, four more than their runner-up, Lille.
The players who are expected to leave at the end of season are Thiago Silva, Edinson Cavani, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Thomas Meunier and Layvin Kurzawa, whose contracts expire at the end of this season. The futures of Sergio Rico and Mauro Icardi, who signed one-year loans with the French club, are also uncertain, although Icardi has been mentioned as the possible replacement for Cavani.
Meunier, Kurzawa and Choupo-Moting will reportedly be available in the January transfer window, but it remains to be seen what will happen with Cavani, who is the club’s record goalscorer and enjoys great support from the fan base. As far as Silva is concerned, coach Tuchel finds him vital, but no talks have yet been held regarding his future at the club.
