Paris Saint-Germain suffered a huge blow as Real Madrid destroyed their hopes of finally winning the Champions League this season. The Ligue 1 giants won the first leg in Paris by 1-0 and took the lead in Madrid as well, both goals the work of Kylian Mbappe for whom this clash held special significance, but Karim Benzema struck back with a hat-trick to see Real through the quarterfinals.
The turnaround and the shocking exit saw plenty of eyebrows raised, and according to L’Equipe, a number of changes at the club are set to take place at the end of the season.
Apparently, PSG have given up hope of keeping Mbappe and the 23-year-old star is likely to sign a pre-contract agreement with Real ‘next week’. Former Real man Angel Di Maria is also likely to leave the French capital.
But despite recent claims that the club owners had had enough of Neymar, the Brazilian is set to stay put, as is Lionel Messi. The futures of Leandro Paredes, Idrissa Gueye, Thilo Kehrer, Layvin Kurzawa, Julian Draxler and Ander Herrera are all uncertain at the moment, but Marquinhos, Marco Verratti, Achraf Hakimi, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Nuno Mendes and Presnel Kimpembe will all stay.
