PSG sweating over Thiago Silva injury

Paris Saint-Germain insist that they do not yet know the extent of the hamstring injury sustained by Thiago Silva against Monaco.

The Brazil international defender limped off 16 minutes into the 1-1 draw at the Parc des Princes on Sunday, with PSG conceding the equalising goal less than five minutes later as Falcao’s diving header cancelled out Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s opener.

Zoumana Camara came on in Thiago Silva’s place, delivering a composed performance as the hosts were left to settle for a point despite dictating for large periods.

Still, the news will come as a blow to manager Laurent Blanc, with Marquinhos and Camara now his only fully fit senior centre-backs, as Alex continues to struggle with a thigh problem.

A statement on the PSG website read: “An MRI scan on Thiago Silva has confirmed a muscle injury to his left hamstring.

“The duration of his unavailability will be specified later, depending on the evolution of the injury.”

Blanc had earlier intimated that he expects Thiago Silva, signed from Milan in July 2012, to endure a lengthy absence.

“It’s obviously a muscular problem so I think we have lost him for a little while,” Blanc commented.
