According to Sky Italia, the impending arrival of Gianluigi Buffon could force Paris Saint-Germain to pull the trigger on selling Alphonse Areola. The 25-year-old Frenchman has been at the club throughout the entirety of his professional career and was even signed to their youth team as far back as 2006.
The rumours surrounding his future have been ongoing for months now, and while he’s still in the early stages of his time at the top, it feels as if he’s already a tenured veteran. Several clubs around Europe have shown interest in acquiring his services, and PSG would be open to letting him go for a fee of €35 million.
It’ll likely be an emotional departure for Areola, but while Buffon will likely only stick around for a year or two, the principle of him being ousted for the legend is enough of a sign that it’s time for him to prove himself elsewhere.
