PSV Eindhoven have confirmed that star player Memphis Depay is almost certain to leave for greener pastures at the end of the season.
The 21-year-old has been in stunning form this season, bagging 19 goals in 25 league outings and he has become one of Europe’s most sought-after footballers.
After he impressed under Louis van Gaal at the 2014 World Cup finals, the youngster could be rejoined with the experienced coach at Old Trafford, with Manchester United reportedly leading the chase for his signature.
And it appears that Depay will not have to wait for much longer to join a top European club with PSV Eindhoven director Marcel Brands confirming that a summer exit was on the cards.
“The chances are very high that he leaves. If you see what clubs are enquiring about him, they really are the best in Europe,” Brands told Dutch news agency ANP.
“When I talk on behalf of PSV I would say he is not ready and should continue here for another year. But I am realistic and if I worked at a big European club, I’d buy him without question.
“With a heavy heart (we would let him go), because a great player and a great guy leaves. But we are also proud that a boy from the academy is going to make such a step.”
It is in large part thanks to Memphis Depay that PSV Eindhoven have created a ten-point cushion at the Eredivisie summit and they are 2/9 favourites to see off PEC Zwolle later today.
