PSV Eindhoven have rejected a bid from Southampton worth £21 million for Cody Gakpo, according to Sky Sports. The Dutch club are believed to be unwilling to consider anything below £25m for the services of the 23-year-old winger, and the Saints are now apparently considering the option of increasing their offer to try and get the transfer done.
Gakpo was heavily linked with Manchester United recently, but United have managed to land their primary target for the wide attacking role – Antony from Ajax – and their move for Gakpo appears unlikely at this point. Gakpo is said to be left disappointed by their withdrawal of interest but remains keen on a Premier League move, which obviously leaves the door open should Southampton choose to pursue him further.
The seven-cap Netherlands international has shown fine form at the start of the season, getting three goals and three assists in three Eredivisie matches so far.
