PSV Eindhoven have reignited their interest in Sporting Lisbon midfielder Stijn Schaars, according to Algemeen Dagblad.
The Dutch giants have been keeping close tabs on the experienced midfielder, but they needed a lot of time to establish a contact with the player’s employers.
Nevertheless, Algemeen Dagblad reports that the two clubs have finally opened talks over Schaars’ move to Philips Stadium and they are expected to reach an agreement in the coming days.
With the player’s deal at Estadio Jose Alvalade due to expire in June 2014 and Sporting looking to get rid of one of their highest earners, PSV are hoping to sign the former Netherlands international at a cut-price deal.
Stijn Schaars is expected to arrive at Philips Stadium as a replacement for star midfielder Kevin Strootman, who is followed by a number of top European clubs.
The highly rated midfielder had played for Vitesse and AZ Alkmaar before joining Sporting Lisbon in June 2011.
