PSV Eindhoven are interested in signing Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham Hotspur, according to Dutch outlet De Telegraaf.
The experienced defender was brought through the ranks at the Ajax academy, and he earned first-team promotion in 2009. In 2013 he was sold to Atletico Madrid and moved on to Southampton a year later, on a season-long loan upon the expiry of which he made his way to Spurs. Since then, he has made a total of 216 appearances in all competitions at club level, scoring nine goals.
The 31-year-old reportedly came close to leaving the north-Londoners a year ago as his previous contract approached its end, but he signed a new one instead, binding him to the club until 2023. Of the 17 Premier League games Spurs have played this season, he started 11 and was replaced only once, sat on the bench through four, and missed one completely due to a muscle injury. Evidently he remains an important member of Jose Mourinho’s team at this point.
However, PSV are believed to have contacted the representatives of the Belgium international with a view of taking him back to Holland.
