Stoke City manager Tony Pulis is hoping to convince Thomas Sorensen to sign a new contract at the Britannia Stadium.
The Danish goalkeeper’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the season meaning he could soon open negotiations with another club and leave on a free transfer.
The former Sunderland man has recently got his place back in the starting line-up at the expense of Asmir Begovic, who lost his place after Stoke’s 5-0 defeat to Bolton earlier this month.
Pulis is determined to keep Sorensen at the Potters as he believes he is an important figure at the club, both on and off the field.
He told the Stoke Sentinel: “It’s important we try to get something sorted. The club feels it’s important and I feel it’s important.”
“Thomas has been a big part of what we have been doing at this football club over the last four years.”
“During the time he was out of the Premier League team, his attitude has been fantastic. He has shown a great commitment by the way he has handled that situation.”
“We have a good dressing room here and he is one of the reasons for that.”
