(GSM) – Pumas UNAM beat Cruz Azul 1-0 in the first leg of their CONCACAF Champions League semi final tie on Wednesday, and are close to a spot in the final.

The only goal in this Mexico City derby was scored in the 24th minute as Pablo Barrera sent a low shot past keeper Gutierrez.

The match marked a milestone for this tournament as over 45000 fans attended the match. This makes it the second-largest crowd ever in a CONCACAF Champions League game, outranked only by last year’s quarter final between Montreal Impact and Santos Laguna which was attended by over 55000.

The two Mexican rivals will meet again for the second leg on April 6.
