Carles Puyol’s mind is more focused on winning Barcelona’s third consecutive La Liga title than Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho.
Barcelona, eight points ahead of Real, will face local rivals Espanyol on Sunday with the crown there for the taking should Real falter against Sevilla on Saturday.
“It would be important to win the three points. The league is not won but it would be good to do it as soon as possible,” Puyol said.
Puyol said he is unfazed by the Mourinho-Barca saga that has dragged on since the Champions League semi-final first leg, after which the Portuguese boss alleged UEFA of favouring the Catalans.
“I hate that we have been accused of some things,” he said. “I do not worry, I will not be aware (of it) but, of course, I do not like that we have been accused of some things.”
Barca will face three-time champions Manchester United in the Champions League final at Wembley – where the Spanish titleholders claimed their maiden European Cup in 1992.
And the defender expects Frenchman Eric Abidal to be fighting fit and ready for selection ahead of the epic encounter.
“It’s incredible what he has done. Only with his strength could he have come out of the situation. I think he will be in the final,” he said.
