Sheikh Abdallah Ben Nasser Al-Thani, a member of the Qatari ruling family, bought unglamorous Spanish First Division outfit Malaga on Saturday, a member of his entourage told AFP.

While the member of the Sheikh’s entourage would not relate the sum paid for a side that only escaped relegation on the last day of the season with a 1-1 draw with Real Madrid, Spanish sports daily ‘AS’ claimed he outlaid 25 million euros for the club based in a resort, which is more famous for being a holiday destination than for its footballing achievements.

“Sheikh Abdallah Ben Nasser Al-Thani has sealed the deal to buy all the shares in the Malaga football club,” the source told AFP.

“The total sum paid will be announced at a press conference on June 15 in Spain.”
