QPR now have a chance of surviving in the top flight

QPR were on the crest of a wave when they won the Championship last season.

The club were expected to give boss Neil Warnock cash to strengthen his squad.

Unfortunately Warnock was only able to bring Kieran Dyer and Jay Bothroyd in on free transfers before the season started.

Fantastic

Warnock has done a fantastic job at Loftus Road and hasn’t really spent a fortune on getting the club to the Premier League. Warnock is a master at man management and getting the best out of mediocre players.

Frustrated

The former-Sheffield United boss must have felt frustrated when the club suffered a 4-0 home defeat to Bolton on the opening day of the Premier League season. He must have looked around his dressing room and worried about how his club would survive in the top flight.

Relief

However he shouldn’t have worried, as the recent takeover by Tony Fernandes has provided him with funds to bring in some good experienced reinforcements.

In fact the money provided by Fernandes and his consortium has strengthened QPR’s squad to the extent that they now have a far better chance to survive in the top flight. The outlook is now far brighter for the Rangers fans.

Experienced

The two players that I believe were the best QPR signings were Joey Barton and Shaun Wright-Phillips. Both are players that have played at the highest level of English football for most of their careers. These are players regarded as good Premier League performers.

To sign a player of Barton’s quality on a free transfer is a major coup for Warnock. For all his well documented off the field problems he is a superb player. He is the sort of player that can win you matches. He is also the sort of player who makes his colleagues work harder.

Joey Barton is somebody that will never hide on the pitch and will always take responsibility for the ball. Even with all his problems Joey Barton could prove one of the signings of the summer. Barton and Warnock are both characters but I don’t think the veteran boss will have a problem handling the Scouse midfielder.

Former- England winger Shaun Wright-Phillips could also be a shrewd signing. At Manchester City Wright-Phillips was wasted. He hardly got a game for Roberto Mancini’s side last season and he has too much talent to be sitting on the substitute bench.

Wright-Phillips will benefit from playing regular football this season and a return to the capital could revitalise his career. The winger is definitely better than a lot of the players who were at the club before the season started.

Ironic

It’s ironic that Joey Barton will make his debut against former-club Newcastle. It’s just typical of the soap opera that is Joey Barton. I just hope he is making the headlines tomorrow morning for the positive rather than the negative.

Squad

Even the signings of the likes of DJ Campbell and Anton Ferdinand have made QPR’s squad look far stronger than before the season started. You look at their squad list and it suddenly looks like a squad capable of surviving in the top flight. Warnock was a busy man on deadline day and he made his squad bigger and stronger.

Optimism

There must now be more optimism amongst the QPR fans that the club will now start moving up the Premier League table. The fans will be hoping that the clubs season starts with a win over Newcastle in tonight’s fixture at Loftus Road.

It will be a tough encounter against the Geordies but hopes are high that the team can now achieve top flight victories. Boss Neil Warnock is a bit like Marmite, you either love him or you hate him.

However nobody can deny that he has done a good job at the Loftus Road and he deserves a fighting chance of staying in the Premier League, just for the job he has done at Loftus Road. Warnock now has that chance, courtesy of the new owner and the new players.
