QPR set to sign Eduardo Vargas and Leroy Fer

Queens Park Rangers F.C. boss Harry Redknapp has confirmed the imminent arrivals of Napoli forward Eduardo Vargas and Norwich midfielder Leroy Fer.

Queens Park Rangers F.C. boss Harry Redknapp has confirmed the imminent arrivals of Napoli forward Eduardo Vargas and Norwich midfielder Leroy Fer.

Vargas, a Chile international, will join the Super Hoops on a season-long loan deal if he passes a medical on Wednesday.

The deal will likely include an option to buy Universidad de Chile star, who bagged five goals in 25 competitive appearances while on loan at Valencia last term, for £8 million.

Redknapp told Sky Sports News HQ: “Vargas is a quality player – he is sharp, he is bright. He can play up front, he can play as a No. 10. I liked him in the World Cup and he’s someone we’ve been following for a while. So we’re hoping it’s a possibility that we can bring him in.

“We’ve had reports on him for quite a while. One of our scouts who lives abroad has been following him for years now. It’s not done yet, but hopefully it is going to be done.”

Meanwhile, Fer, 24, is expected to secure a £7.5 million move from Norwich to QPR.

The Holland international, who joined the Canaries from Dutch Eredivisie side  FC Twente last summer, scored three goals in 29 English Premier League appearances for Norwich last season but ultimately could not help the club avoid relegation.

“He will be an excellent signing – a Dutch international who played in the World Cup,” added Redknapp. “He is an outstanding midfield player and will bring a lot of qualities to the club.

“He’s got a great physique, gets box to box – I think he’ll be a good signing for us. We were a bit light [in midfield]. You need cover everywhere.”

If both are finalised, the high-profile duo will become Redknapp’s fifth and sixth summer signings, joining the likes of Jordon Mutch, Mauricio Isla, Rio Ferdinand and Steven Caulker at Loftus Road.

In other news, Redknapp has also confirmed his interest in securing a deal for Dynamo Kyiv midfielder Niko Kranjcar.

The 30-year-old midfielder is under contract at Dynamo until the summer of 2016 but has been tipped to leave Ukraine, having not featured for the club since the 2012/13 campaign.

“He’s a player I’m speaking to the chairman about. He’s a Premier League player, real quality, who can do things other players can’t,” Redknapp said.

“He can see a pass and score a goal out of nothing. He’s a great lad and a good professional so yes I’d like to get him back here. But we’ll have to wait and see.”

QPR are priced at 7/4 to avoid relegation this season.
