QPR want Jermain Defoe; West Brom’s Kemar Roofe joins Colchester

Queens Park Rangers F.C. manager Harry Redknapp has hinted he may make a second attempt to lure Jermain Defoe to Loftus Road in the January transfer window.

Queens Park Rangers F.C. manager Harry Redknapp has hinted he may make a second attempt to lure Jermain Defoe to Loftus Road during the January transfer window.

QPR appeared to be on the verge of completing a deal for the England international on deadline day in the summer, but nothing materialised.

Now then, according to reports, Defoe will put pen to paper on a three-year deal with QPR in January, but Redknapp has rubbished such speculation.

“No, I don’t think anything is anywhere near being concluded with Jermain,” Redknapp said.

“We tried to get Jermain before the deadline, but I don’t think there is any movement on that one at the moment.

“I am a fan of Jermain’s, I have signed him enough times!

“He is a goalscorer and obviously a player you would like at your club, if possible, but the figures would have to be right.

“I have not spoken to Tony [Fernandes, QPR chairman] about that yet.”

Redknapp added: “He is a player I am sure we would be interested in, in January.

“It depends on the expense of it all and what the deal is. Tony would deal with that, so it’s up to him.”

QPR–priced at 10/11 to suffer relegation–are scheduled to play host to Manchester City, who suffered an embarrassing 2-1 home defeat to CSKA Moscow in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, at the weekend.

West Brom’s Kemar Roofe joins Colchester

Colchester United have completed the capture of West Bromwich Albion starlet Kemar Roofe on an initial one-month loan deal.

Roofe could potentially debut in the U’s FA Cup first-round clash against Conference South side Gosport Borough on Sunday.

The 21-year-old midfielder has been a regular for West Brom’s reserves for quite some time, having also enjoyed loan spells at Víkingur Reykjavík (2011), Northampton (2012), and Cheltenham (2013/14).

“I am really looking forward to playing for Colchester,” Roofe told the Baggies’ official website. “The move is another chance for me to show the gaffer, the club and everyone else what I am about and also what I can offer.

“I’m looking forward to playing in front of a crowd and also trying to win football matches with Colchester. There is no better feeling in football than getting three points.

“I have already had good experiences out on loan at Northampton and Cheltenham, and on both occasions I have improved as a player and as a person.”

Upon returning to the Hawthorns, Roofe will find it very difficult to break into the Baggies first-team. He faces stiff competition from the likes of Brown Ideye, Saido Berahino, Stéphane Sessègnon, and Victor Anichebe.
