Atletico de Madrid and FC Porto held each other to a 2-2 draw in their first round of sixteen match. The Spanish led twice, but Porto fought back the same amount of times.

Just three minutes had been played at Vicente Calderon stadium when the home side took a 1-0 lead. Sergio Agüero provided a pass for Maxi Rodriguez to run on on and shoot past keeper Helton.

Porto levelled in the 22nd minute though as Ibañez failed to properly clear a Raul Meireles header and Lisandro Lopez stood in the right place to take advantage.

But the half time score would be in Atletico’s favor as Uruguayan Diego Forlan collected the ball near midfield, moved forward and then struck past the keeper to make it 2-1.

Porto didn’t give up though and again it was Lisandro to score in the 72nd minute. The forward converted a Cissokho cross to earn his side a draw that offers possibilities for the return leg on March 11th.
