Bayern Munich ended Matchday 1 of the Champions League as Group F leaders thanks to their win at Steaua. Meanwhile, Lyon came from two goals down earn a point against Fiorentina.
Steaua 0-1 Bayern Munich
Bayern had the Romanian hosts on their heels from the whistle, and their pressure paid off 15 minutes in when Daniel van Buyten hit a header home off Bastian Schweinsteiger’s pinpoint free kick.
Steaua improved after that, both sides getting numerous opportunities on target, but the goal from the Dutchman stood up as the winner.
Lyon 2-2 Fiorentina
Fiorentina’s return to the Champions League group stage was thwarted by a late Lyon charge, but it started out promising for the Viola thanks to two first-half goals by Alberto Gilardino.
But the French side fought back hard and pulled one back in the 73rd when substitute Frederic Piquionne slotted home from close range. They then earned a draw four minutes from time when Juninho feigned a free kick and slid it to Karim Benzema who fired home with precision.
