(GSM) – Sevilla took control of their Champions League Round of 16 tie on Wednesday with a 1-1 draw away to CSKA Moscow.
Though the Russians had decent chances through Keisuke Honda and Mark González, it was the visitors from Sevilla that took the lead in the 25th minute.
A cross in from Jesús Navas fell in between Sergei Ignashevitch and Igor Akinfeev, allowing Álvaro Negredo in to tuck home a crucial away goal.
CSKA quickly went back on the offensive with Honda coming close, but Sevilla goalkeeper Andrés Palop made a couple of big saves to preserve the lead before half-time.
The Russians continued their assault in the second half, and they finally got a deserved equalizer in the 66th minute when Chile international González hit a sublime drive from over 25 yards out that eluded a helpless Palop.
Sevilla’s Marius Stankevicius and CSKA’s Tomas Necid both had chances to win it late, but the match ended in a draw, leaving it all to play for in the return leg in two weeks in Spain.
