Liverpool are certain of a spot in the third preliminary round of the Champions League as city rivals Everton were held by Aston Villa.
Phil Neville put Everton ahead after 55 minutes but most of the action would take place in the final phase.
Agbonlahor equalized in the 80th minute but Yobo restored the home lead four minutes later. Norwegian John Carew put the teams on level terms again, only one minute after Everton’s second goal.
Everton occupy the fifth place at eight points from Liverpool. With just two games to go, that deficit is too big to overcome. Aston Villa meanwhile, are on cource for a UEFA Cup spot. The Birmingham outfit are placed sixth, two points ahead of Portsmouth.
