Glasgow Rangers have joined Zenit St Petersburg in the final of the 2007-08 UEFA Cup, beating a stronger Fiorentina on penalties.
The two sides couldn’t score in regular time, and even extra time wasn’t enough for either side to force the decision.
Glasgow’s Daniel Cousin went out with a second yellow card in the 109th minute, ruling him out of the final in any case.
Fiorentina had been the better side throughout most of the match, but the Italians failed to convert this into goals.
In the penalty shoot-out, Rangers’ captain Barry Ferguson had his effort saved by Sebastian Frey, but Liverani and the experienced Cristian Vieri couldn’t score from the spot either for Fiorentina. Nacho Novo remained calm and scored the decider.
Rangers meet with Zenit St Petersburg in the final, on May 14th.
