(GSM) – First-half strikes by David Villa and Sergio Ramos lifted defending European champion Spain to a 2-0 win over France at the Stade de France on Wednesday.
An unintentional deflection sent Villa through on goal in the 22nd minute, and his finish gave French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris no chance.
Then, just before half-time, Ramos doubled the Spanish advantage when his shot touched off of Julien Escudé before flying past Lloris.
Spain nearly had a third in the 61st minute when Lloris made a nice stop on Fernando Torres, though France’s Florent Malouda struck the woodwork with 10 minutes to play.
It was a World Cup tune-up for both sides as France open Group A play in Cape Town against Uruguay on 11 June, while Spain’s first Group H tie is against Switzerland on 16 June in Durban.
