France overcame their opening match defeat by Austria with a valuable 2-1 victory over Serbia at the Stade de France.
But it would go too far to say that it was an easy victory, as Domenech’s men needed until the 54th minute to break the deadlock. Sidney Govou served Thierry Henry, who beat the Serbian goalkeeper for 1-0.
Nicolas Anelka added a second goal ten minutes later, and the French seemed to be heading for a comfortable win.
But the visiting side did come back as Ivanovic put one past Mandanda from close range in the 76th minute.
The French held on to their lead however, to earn their first three points in this qualifying campaign and secure Raymond Domenech’s job for at least another month.
