Manchester United and Villarreal are both practically certain of the next round in the Champions League following draws at Celtic and AaB respectively.
Celtic came close to beating United, which would have given the Scottish new hope in this group. McDonald opened the score on thirteen minutes and for a long time, Manchester didn’t know how to reply.
But Ferguson’s men did eventually get a point as Ryan Giggs stood up and netted the equaliser with six minutes to go.
Villarreal twice took the lead at Aalborg, but the Danes equalised in both occasions.
Rossi broke the deadlock on 41 minutes but Curth equalised nine minutes into the second half.
Guille Franco then restored the Spanish side’s lead with fifteen minutes left, but the hosts again equalised. This time the scorer was Due, in the 81st minute.
Manchester and Villarreal both have eight points and it is almost impossible for either side not to make it through, as Celtic and Aalborg have only two points each. United and Villarreal could arrange a draw in three weeks from now, to secure their sports in the next round.
