(GSM) – A second-half brace by Fernando Torres guided Liverpool into the Europa League quarter-finals on Thursday as the Reds’ 3-0 victory secured a 3-1 aggregate triumph over Lille.
Steven Gerrard cancelled Lille’s narrow advantage from the first leg in the ninth minute when he slotted home from the spot after Lucas went down in the area.
The home side continued to press at Anfield, and Torres put them in control on 49 minutes when a defensive lapse let the striker in on goal for a simple finish past Mickaël Landreau.
Despite Lille’s best efforts to grab the clinching away goal, they fell short when Torres sealed off the victory a minute from time after Gerrard’s shot was knocked away by Landreau.
