Liverpool are through to the quarter finals of the Champions League following a very convincing 3-0 victory over Real Madrid at Anfield Road.
Following Liverpool’s 0-1 victory in Spain two weeks ago, Real Madrid realized that they needed to attack if they wante to survive in this tournament.
But the Spaniards also showed a shockingly weak defense, with Liverpool taking advantage on 16 minutes. Pepe misjudged a high ball, Kuyt conquered the ball and passed to Fernando Torres who put the opener past Casillas.
Another 12 minutes later, Madrid defender Gabriel Heinze supposedly handled the ball in the area and Steven Gerrard made no mistakes from the penalty area.
And two minutes after the break, Gerrard added another to take away all doubts. A left-wing cross from Babel was volleyed home by the skipper.
The fourth and final goal came in the 88th minute, when Dossena converted a Mascherano pass for 4-0.
