Liverpool and Atlético Madrid both went to six points in Champions League Group D on Wednesday with wins over PSV and Marseille, respectively.
Liverpool 3-1 PSV Eindhoven
Dirk Kuyt got the home side off to a flying start when he tucked home off a corner kick just four minutes after the opening whistle.
A half-hour later, Robbie Keane opened his Liverpool scoring account with a superb volley from Fernando Torres’ right-wing cross. Steven Gerrard poked home off a free kick in the 76th minute to make it 3-0 for Liverpool, putting the Dutch side away.
Dany Koevermans scored PSV’s first goal in four matches against Liverpool two minute later, but it was mere consolation.
Atlético Madrid 2-1 Marseille
Atlético also got off to a hot start with Sergio Agüero getting his third in two Champions League games just four minutes in, but Mamadou Niang stunned the hosts in the 16th minute when he pulled Marseille level with a header.
The Spaniards regained the lead just six minutes later when Raúl GarcÃÂa re-directed a Mariano PernÃÂa free kick past Steve Mandanda, a strike that would prove the winner.
