Manchester United were held to a 2-2 draw by FC Porto in the first leg of their Champions League quarter final tie.
Just four minutes had been played when Old Trafford was silenced by Rodriguez, who curled a shot past keeper Van der Sar following poor clearance by Jonny Evans.
But United soon fought their way back though and Wayne Rooney equalised in minute 15th. The striker took advantage of a bad Bruno Alves back-pass and chipped the ball over keeper Helton for 1-1.
The defending champions thought to have scored the winner with five minutes to go as Wayne Rooney flicked on a throw-in with Carlos Tevez ready to slam it home from close range.
But Porto had the final say. A Lisandro cross eventually founded Mariano in the penalty area, and the substitute forward did well to beat Van der Sar for 2-2.
As a result, United have the obligation to score when the two sides meet again in Porto on April 15th.
