Romania have failed to make it to the quarter finals of Euro 2008 as result of a 2-0 defeat by the Netherlands.

Romania lacked the creativity to really threaten the Dutch team, which was without most of its key players as Van Basten decided to rest some of his regulars.

Codrea had a good chance near the end of the first half but blasted his shot over the crossbar.

Klaas Jan Huntelaar ended Romania’s dreams in the 54th minute with a goal scored from close range.

And Robin van Persie doubled the Dutch lead in the 87th minute, powering a shot past Lobont and into the roof of the goal for 2-0.

Romania finish third in Group C, ahead of France but behind Italy.

The Netherlands will play their quarter final match in Basel on Saturday, against Sweden or Russia.
