(GSM) – Nigeria are through to the quarter finals in the African Cup of Nations following a 3-0 win over Mozambique in their final Group C match.
The Nigerians needed a draw to finish second in this group, while Mozambique required a win to do so and advance to the next round.
Nigeria, led by manager Shaibu Amodu, attacked from the start but had difficulties getting close to Mozambique’s goal in the first half.
But the match favorites did go ahead on 45 minutes, with Lokomotiv Moskva’s Patrick Odemwingie directing the ball past keeper Kapango for 1-0.
Three minutes after the break, Odemwingie added a second to make it 2-0. The third and final goal came at four minutes from the end, with Obafemi Martins scoring from within the penalty box.
Egypt, who beat Benin 2-0 in Wednesday’s other Group C game, finish in first place.
