(GSM) – Benfica scored a later winner at Olympique Marseille to beat the French 3-2 on aggregate and advance to the quarter finals in the UEFA Europa League.
After a 1-1 draw in the first leg, all pressure was on Benfica to score at least once at Marseille’s Stade Velodrome.
Instead, it was the French outfit to score the opener through Mamadou Niang in the 70th minute, although Maximiliano Pereira equalised just five minutes later.
With the match seemingly heading for extra time, Benfica scored a 90th-minute winner through substitute Alan Kardec in the 90th minute, just four minutes after the Brazilian had entered play.
Marseille’s Ben Arfa, who had replaced Bakary Kone in the 90th minute, bumped into a red card almost immediately. With just ten players left and two goals to score in added time, the task proved too much for the French as Benfica advance to the last eight.
