(GSM) – Real Madrid surpass arch rivals FC Barcelona at the top of the Spanish Primera Division following a very hard-fought 3-2 win over Sevilla. Rafael van der Vaart scored the winner on 90 minutes.

After Barcelona drew 2-2 at Almeria earlier on the day, Real Madrid had the perfect opportunity to move into shared first place, surpassing Barcelona on goal record.

But Sevilla had different plans at Santiago Bernabeu, and received a little bit of help as Xabi Alonso scored an own goal in the tenth minute.

Ivica Dragutinovic even made it 0-2 seven minutes after the break and it looked like Sevilla were heading for a high-profile victory over the capital city side.

But Real Madrid soon began to fight back and score 1-2 through Cristiano Ronaldo on the hour mark. Four minutes later, wing-back Sergio Ramos even made it 2-2.

Just when a draw seemed inevitable, Dutch midfielder Rafael van der Vaart netted the winning goal in Real’s favor.

Madrid and Barcelona each have 62 points from 25 games, but Real have a slightly better goal record.
