Russia have kept their chances in Group 4 of the European World Cup qualifiers alive with a somewhat fortunate 3-0 win over Finland.

Petri Pasanen put the ball past his own goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen after 23 minutes to hand the Russians a 1-0 lead.

And things got even worse when Veli Lampi did exactly the same five minutes after the hour mark.

Russia’s number 10 Andrei Arshavin netted the home side’s third with about two minutes to go, helping his team to a comfortable victory.

The Russians now have six points from three games – they lost to Germany on Saturday – and move into second place in this group.
