Spain have secured a spot in the semi finals of the European Championships following a penalty win over Italy on Sunday.

The Spanish had been the better side throughout most of the match but had difficulties creating actual chances in front of Italy’s goal.

In extra time, Luis Aragonés men continued to attack and forced a big chance in the very last minute but David Villa saw a pass from the left wing flying just in front of him.

A penalty shoot out was needed to decide which team is to face Russia in the semi finals.

David Villa, Fabio Grosso and Santi Cazorla scored but Daniele de Rossi had his spot kick saved by Iker Casillas.

Marcos Senna and Mauro Camoranesi then did what they had to do but Buffon brought Italy back into the game by blocking Daniel Güiza’s attempt.

But Casillas reacted right away and saved Antonio Di Natale’s penalty, after which Cesc Fabregas scored to take Spain to the next round.
