(GSM) – Valencia advance to the quarter finals in the UEFA Europa League after a highly entertaining 4-4 draw at Werder Bremen. As the first match ended 1-1, the Spaniards qualify on away goals.
The visiting side had a great start at Bremen’s Weserstadion as David Villa scored the opener on three minutes and Juan Mata made it 0-2 in the 15th.
Werder, who now needed three goals to survive, did fight back and scored through Hugo Almeida in the 26th minute, but Villa got his second of the night shortly before the break to all but decide the encounter.
The second half showed a defiant Werder however. Torsten Frings converted a penalty in the 57th minute and Marko Marin even made it 3-3 five minutes later.
Valencia remained focused though and restored their advantage with Villa completing his hat-trick four minutes later. Claudio Pizarro made it 4-4 six minutes before the end, but the Germans failed to find the target once more in the remaining time.
