(GSM) – Christian Gentner’s 119th-minute winner sent Wolfsburg into the Europa League quarter-finals as a 2-1 extra-time win sealed a 3-2 aggregate triumph over Russian side Rubin Kazan.

Rubin cancelled out Wolfsburg’s away goal and took the lead in the tie in the 29th minute when Alan Kasaev drove one from 15 yards beyond goalkeeper Marwin Hitz.

Wolfsburg, though, pulled the tie even in the 58th minute when Obafemi Martins’s goal off a set piece beat Sergei Ryzhikov in the Rubin goal.

A full 90 minutes was not enough to settle it, and extra time was set to decide the tie.

In the 109th minute, though, Rubin saw the tie turned on its head when defender César Navas earned his second booking for a foul on Edin Dzeko.

That set the stage for Gentner’s winner a minute from time as the Russian defense had nothing left to fight off the German champions.
