As reported by the Mirror, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Andre Onana from Ajax, but they face competition from the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona.
After the departures of Frenkie de Jong and defender Matthijs de Ligt last summer to Barcelona and Juventus, respectively, as well as Hakim Ziyech’s agreement to join Chelsea this year, the 24-year-old goalkeeper is expected to head through the exit door too. The Dutch champions apparently value him at around £25 million.
Both Chelsea and Spurs are contemplating the Cameroon international as a potential solution for their problems between the posts, with the futures of both Kepa Arrizabalaga and Hugo Lloris in London far from certain. Onana faced both Premier League clubs in the Champions League in the last two seasons and obviously impressed.
The shot-stopper took his first football steps at the academy run by former Chelsea and Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o, and joined Barca’s youth setup at the age of 14. He made his way to Amsterdam in 2015. The Catalans are now considering him as a potential replacement for Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who has so far refused to sign a new contract with the La Liga champions.
