La Gazzetta dello Sport understands that Genoa have joined the race to sign Santos midfielder Thiago Maia.
The Brazilian has seen his stock rise a great deal after helping the Selecao win their first ever Olympic gold at the Men’s Football Tournament, and he now looks set to move to Europe.
And while Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, FC Porto and clubs from La Liga are keen on his services, Serie A outfit Genoa were the first to make concrete moves.
The Rossoblu have been in talks with the player’s representatives and they hope to bring the central midfielder to Stadio Luigi Ferraris at the earliest opportunity.
Even though some of the leading clubs in Europe are after his signature, Thiago Maia would have no problem joining a weaker side where he would have a good chance of nailing down a regular starting berth, as there is plenty of time for the 19-year-old to make it to the biggest stage.
