Rafa Benitez’s appointment as the new Everton boss following Carlo Ancelotti’s return to Real Madrid was a rather controversial move, considering the fact that the Spaniard spent six years in charge at Liverpool and oversaw the historic night in Istanbul in 2005.
Many Everton supporters were unhappy about the man who once referred to the Toffees as a ‘small club’ being given a job, and attempts were made to pressure him into backing down.
However, Benitez says he never considered it, once the talks had started.
🗣”For sure no, when I decided to start talking I was convinced this was a great opportunity.”
