(GSM) – Internazionale boss Rafael Benítez has said he wants to keep Brazil international Maicon for next season.
The 29-year-old Brazilian has been the subject of a summer-long saga as former Nerazzurri boss Jose Mourinho seeks to take the full back to Real Madrid.
However, Benítez, who has made it known that he does not have control over transfers at the club – has voiced his opposition to the move.
Asked if he wanted to retain Maicon, he told Mediaset: “Certainly. He is an important player for us and you can tell that on the field.
“Last season, he did great work for the team and he has remarkable attacking qualities. As a coach, I want him in my squad.”
